The latest few days not only Sweden, but also England and the Netherlands have released some positive reports on less plastic bags in our near Oceans.
In the Baltic sea, the North sea and the surroundings the amount of plastic bags have reduced significant. The SVT-NEWS reports that the number of plastic bags in fish nets have decreased from 40 – 16% . This is a very positive trend for the environment, the sea live and and people. The reasons for the drastic drop in plastic bags pollution is being tracked to the new laws about adding a fee to all plastic bags. Many of the countries in Europe have the past year implemented a general fee to single use plastic bags. Germany,England, The Netherlands, France and Denmark have had this since 2003. But now Sweden have followed. This is one good step forward in the fight against plastic pollution. But if the single plastic bag use is going in the right direction. There is still far to go. Also for other plastic products like bottles, fish net, bojs etc the numbers are still increasing in our Oceans.
